Supporting affordable, sustainable development by passing a resolution in support of the New Madinah Project

The Society for Islamic Brotherhood submitted plans to the BPDA to redevelop their site, as their current space, including a mosque and food pantry, is too small and poses safety risks due to damaged sidewalks. The proposal includes 38 affordable housing units, a larger worship space for over 300 members, an expanded food pantry, education spaces, and a public bazaar. Although initially rejected due to the removal of two street trees, an arborist recommended their removal due to poor health. The revised plan adds 12 trees and introduces sustainability features like a heat-island-reducing green roof. I fully supported this project and sponsored a resolution for its approval to help the Society continue its impactful work. Many advocates and members of the Society for Islamic Brotherhood came to City Hall to show their support and appreciation for the New Madinah project.
