On December 9, 2024, as Chair of the Civil Rights and Racial Equity Committee and sponsor of the hearing, I led the Boston City Council’s discussion to address systemic inequities faced in District Seven (D7). The focus of the hearing was to advance a holistic vision that acknowledges and redresses historic racial harms, promotes civil rights, and ensures equitable development for D7 constituents. The discussion highlighted disparities in public health, housing, education, economic opportunity, environmental justice, public safety, transportation, community engagement and inclusion, and access to basic amenities. The hearing underscored the need for actionable steps to dismantle structural barriers and uplift historically marginalized communities.
We look forward to incorporating the insights and recommendations shared during the hearing. These additions will help ensure the plan addresses the full scope of disparities and remains responsive to the needs of the community. I am committed to leveraging these findings to drive equitable policies, secure necessary resources, and create measurable progress for the residents of D7.
